Michael Wetzel

Michael Wetzel is the Associate Director, International Trade Compliance, for the Mission Systems business unit within Collins Aerospace. In this role, Michael manages and leads a team of ITC professionals that provide Technology Management, Authorizations, and Investigations and Disclosure guidance for over 50 Collins Aerospace locations around the world. The Mission Systems business unit manufacturers and exports commercial, dual-use, and military commodities for ISR and Space Solutions, Training and Mission Solutions, and Communication, Navigation and Guidance Solutions.

Prior to joining Collins Aerospace, Michael was a Foreign Affairs Officer in the Office of Export Control Cooperation, Bureau of International Security and Nonproliferation (ISN/ECC), U.S. Department of State. Michael was responsible for a diverse country portfolio and worked with partner countries to develop, implement, and strengthen strategic trade controls, including controls that govern the export, import, re-export, transit, and transshipment of dual-use, munitions, and other sensitive items. Michael began his U.S. government service as an International Affairs Specialist within the U.S. Air Force’s International Armaments Cooperation Division (SAF/IAPQ). Michael was responsible for identifying, establishing, and maintaining international cooperative research, development and acquisition agreements and programs.

Michael holds a M.A. in Political Science from American University, as well as a B.A. in Political Science from Juniata College.
